Diseases like dengue are on the rise, with a high fatality rate. Vaccines for them are still being developed and it is safe to say, are out of reach of the common man for a very long time. Therefore it becomes crucial for everyone to incorporate certain preventive measures to combat the disease.
What you can do?
• The dengue mosquito breeds in fresh, standing water. Make sure you have no water standing around your houses. If you find some collected nearby, take measures to have it drained. If you need to store some water, keep it under a tightly sealed lid.
• Dengue mosquitoes are most active around dusk and dawn. Unfortunately that is also a time when people our mostly outdoors commuting to and fro. To avoid being bitten, wear loose clothes with long sleeves. Mosquitoes can bite through tight clothing. Also make sure you wear socks and shoes instead of sandals.
• Invest in some good quality mosquito repellants. Remember to apply all over, especially to exposed parts of skin.
• At the times when dengue mosquitoes are active, keep doors and windows closed. Install net screens over windows to keep all insects out. It is best if you cover the beds with a net screen as well.
• Plugging in mosquito repellent mats, liquids and spraying the corners with insecticide are also helpful ways of driving the insects out of the house.
• Get proper rest and drink plenty of fluids and juices to keep your immune system healthy and strong.
